You will find four types of road restriction signs used in this country – those carrying symbols, times, actions or a text message. By international convention road restriction signs are usually rectangular white signs with a red border and carrying a black pictogram, though there are a few that are blue rectangular signs with a white border and white pictogram or text. These signs are a subset of the regulatory sign group as set out by the United Nations Economic and Social Council in the Vienna Convention on Road Signs and Signals of 1968. Road restriction signs are used to restrict specific vehicles from having access to certain areas, or to indicate the times within which such a restriction takes place. This type of sign is widely used in Europe and in North America.
