It is so easy to get lost on South Africa’s roads if you’re not familiar with them and if there happen to be just one or two ambiguous directional signs to trip you up – this is why a manufacturer has to be so careful in the design and manufacture of such signs. There are ambiguous directional signs though, and this usually occurs when the manufacturer has been given duff information by his client. Armco Signage takes every possible precaution in the production of signs that we make. However we always stress to our clients that our signs are only as good as the information that they give us. It’s rather like a computer from which the information it produces is only as good as the information that has been put into it.

Generally speaking, South Africa’s directional signs are supplied by the manufacturer in one of two colour schemes. If they relate to a freeway they are white on a blue background, and if to any other roads white on a green background. In both cases the route numbers (such as N3 or R101) are depicted in yellow. Sometimes you may see a green sign with a blue portion superimposed, indicating the way on to a freeway. You may also occasionally see a small black on white sign at the start of a dirt road (such as DR2012) that gives the identification number of that particular dirt road.
