Signs come in many shapes and forms, and each commercial sign has the purpose of identifying or attracting business for the sign owner who is displaying the sign. Commercial signs are generally ordered and purchased from a signage company by the owner of the business indicated on the sign. Many large organisations, such as drink manufacturers and oil companies, provide signs free-of-charge to businesses where the organisation’s competitive products may be on sale. In a drinking establishment, for example, numerous small neon signs may be located on the wall, each advertising and suggesting that the patron drink that organisation’s product. Such signs may be manufactured en masse by a signage company.

Billboards are sometimes rented by organisations, suggesting the viewer purchase its products. In some cases, such billboard signs may tend to be generic in nature and paid for by an industry or a community, for example signs such as ‘Drink more milk’ or ‘Visit Las Vegas’. Whatever the sign, and there are thousands of them, a signage company of some sort is involved in its manufacture. Armco Signage is a relatively new company name, but the business is not. Armco Signage came into being in 2008 when Nameplate Centre, an established market leader in the road sign industry for more than 40 years, was taken over by Armco Superlite (Pty) Ltd., and renamed. Armco Signage is the country’s leading road sign manufacturer, but also carries a full range of other signage products.
