Signage

Where would we be without signage? That question bears a very easy answer – Lost! Ever since people started moving about from one place to another signs have been used to show the direction and distance to the next significant town or village. To the best of our knowledge the Romans started it, and Roman signage can be seen to this very day scattered throughout what was the Roman Empire giving the distance to Rome. Direction signs are so important to us that during WWII all of the signs were removed from Britain’s roads lest, if there were an invasion, the invading forces would use them to their advantage. In order to establish an international norm, the shape, size and colour of traffic signs has been laid down by the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic, and generally speaking all countries use this convention as the basis for their signage.
Armco Signage became South Africa’s major road sign company in 2008 with the acquisition of
Nameplate Centre, a respected supplier of road signs throughout South Africa and Internationally. The company manufactures the complete range of the country’s road signs. These include brown tourist signs, blue and green direction signs, warning signs and regulatory signs. That’s not all that Armco does though. The company also produces silk screen printing, vinyl signs, decals, self adhesive labels, digital printing, modular signage systems and in fact any signs to meet your specifications. We can be found in Robertville, Johannesburg – if you would like any further information about any types of signs, please contact us at +27 11 222 9800
