Information Signage
Information signage is a very legibly printed and very noticeable placard of some kind that informs people of the purpose of an object, or gives them instruction on the use of something. There is plenty of information signage that you can see in South Africa and the surrounding countries, and typically it gives information to the driver that is not in any way restrictive but rather is informative. Typical of these signs are the familiar brown and white tourism information signs that you see by the side of the road in this country. Information signs have been growing in visibility due to the explosion of sign technologies. For hundreds, if not thousands, of years signs were made out of wood. Words and images were then hand-painted on the sign. More recently they have been constructed out of metal that has been stamped and painted. Information signage has changed dramatically with the advent of plastics, which are far more flexible than metal as well as being significantly cheaper to produce. Additionally, altogether new sign technologies have come into being, such as computer-cut vinyl signage.
